Lingerie Advertising That Works
Getting on the web, while difficult for some, is the easy part of starting an ecommerce business. The really hard part is being found, and getting sales. There are many methods used on the web to get traffic, including spam, banner ads, text ads, affiliate traffic, link exchanges, and advertising off the web. While some of these methods may work in the long run, it is the short term, quicker results that most small business owners seek. Those are the results we will discuss.
There are some methods of advertising that work better and faster than others. The best method is free search engine traffic. We like it because it is free, and that fits the wallets of the small business owner. Having a website that is search engine optimized (seo), and is more relevant than your competitors so you get seen on page one of search results, is not easy. SEO website design is expensive, and out of the budget of most small business owners. If you elect to give it a try yourself, be prepared to keep updated on seo weekly, as changes to the ranking criteria in the search engines can change weekly, and most often does change monthly, at least to some minor degree. Major changes in the search engines take place 2-4 times a year, and a radical change will often occur once a year. These changes can mean that you will be displaced from that high ranking position, and tossed to the bottom, or at least deep into the middle of search results, where you will never be seen. This is why seo deserves constant attention by the ecommerce site owner.
Paid advertising very rarely is the effective method to advertise the small business. At five cents a click and up, you want to be very sure you are getting only qualified traffic. Qualified traffic is that traffic which contains soley persons shopping for your product. This is difficult because a high percentage of those search for your keywords in the engines, will be your competitors checking their position, and the competition. There are some very high traffic website that offer advertising on a flat rate basis.
Flat rate advertising is a system where the advertiser pays a monthly fee, and they get unlimited traffic. That traffic is only quality traffic if those site visitors who see the advertising are actually in the market for the product you sell. So, unlimited traffic on a tractor trailer motor parts site would be virtually useless to a lingerie retailer. To be quality traffic the refering page would have to have content that was related to your product. This would mean the traffic the referring site received on that page, came looking for products you sell, and saw your ad. In this case the page would have to be lingerie related. An example of this would be the lingerie catagory in a directory for lingerie site, where the advertising was flat rate, such as this one, or this one.
Sites that provide flat rate traffic are good for small businesses because you can decide how much you want to spend for the month, and then get unlimited traffic for that dollar amount. If you wanted to spend only $10 per month, in a pay per click system, you wouldn't get much traffic or exposure for that $10, because you will be competiting for position with business owners who have a lot more money to spend than you do, so their ads will always be above yours unless you outbid them, and pay a high price for each click. On a $10 monthly budget, at $1.00 per click to be seen on top of the sponsor's list, you would only get 10 visitors, any number of which might be competitors or researchers (such as us), who will not buy from you. With flat rate advertising you might get 1000-10,000 quality visitors for your $10, if the pages you advertise on have high traffic. Since sales are a numbers game where only .005% of all first time visitors might buy (that is the norm) a high volumn of visitors is very important in sales. If your site gets 1000 unique visitors each month, you can expect one new client a month. Mulitple that out and you will see in order to get 100 new orders each month, your unique quality traffic level needs to be at 100,000 monthly. If you can make an average profit of $50 on a retail lingerie order, and you want to make $1000 per month, your traffic level needs to be at 20,000 monthly. This might be a good figure for retail. But for wholesale lingerie, the average profit per order would be more like $150, and would require a traffic level of 6,000-7,000 monthly. It doesn't take much to see that wholesale is a better marketing plan.
A click exchange is an advertising system where the business owner views and clicks other site's banners, to earn credit for their own banners to be seen on sites. This system does not work for retail. The visitors you receive stay on your site for a few seconds, do not view the product, do not want to view the product, are not interested in the product, are not interested in buying the product, and will not buy the product. They are on your site to quickly earn credits for their own banner to be viewed, and most often are kids or young adults, with little money to spend. Frequently the click exchange owner has other businesses, and those businesses are the banners you view to get your credits. Many are multi-level marketing schemes and other get rich quick schemes that do not work.
